People compare Bitcoin to the Internet. Well, the Internet required an enormous hardware infrastructure buildout before its potential as a software platform could be realized. That's where we come in. We believe that Bitcoin isn't going to happen simply by dropping a line of Javascript into a webpage. Someone needs to build the full-stack infrastructure for Bitcoin, from silicon to software. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Peter Thiel, that someone is us.

21 is seeking a Security Engineer interested in all aspects of internal and external Bitcoin software security.

About you

  • You have a BS/MS/PhD degree in CS or an allied discipline - or the equivalent in independent experience
  • You have expertise in C++ and at least one of Ruby, Python, or Javascript
  • Expertise in threat modeling and leading secure development initiatives
  • Familiarity with applied cryptography, Bitcoin, SSL/TLS and x509
  • Experience working with cryptographic libraries and APIs
  • Experience testing and deploying cryptographic tools and key management
  • Familiarity with modern web threats
  • Familiarity with service-oriented designs and of network/web related protocols
  • Interest in all aspects of security research and development

What you'll do

  • As a security engineer on our team you will have an opportunity to be both builder and breaker
  • As a builder you will work on key management across all systems
  • As a breaker you will bring your experience to security reviews and penetration tests
  • Specifically, you will design and build the key management and fraud mitigation systems used across our products and services
  • You'll also lead threat models and design reviews to ensure all products and services released follow security best practices
  • Finally, you'll work with outside vendors to perform security reviews of products and services

Bonus Points

  • You're an active contributor to the open source community
  • You have experience with cryptographic hardware (TPM, HSM, etc.)
  • Experience writing key-management software
  • Experience with building fraud mitigation, authentication, and authorization systems
  • Expertise in the theory and implementation of white-box cryptography
  • You have a healthy sense of paranoia :)
